A report by the National Women’s Law Center found that over one in four female veterans are in debt. Moreover, 23,000 active military need SNAP to make ends meet.

173 women were killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many more have been wounded in combat. 157,000 women veterans currently receive disability compensation.
Additional Challenges Many Military Women Face
- A GAO survey found that 27% of female service members reported experiencing food insecurity compared to 16% of male service members. Among women veterans, 10% (250,000) experience food insecurity. The GAO also reported that 23,000 active-duty military personnel (both men and women) receive SNAP benefits to make ends meet.
- Approximately 4,000 female veterans experience homelessness on any given night.
- A report by the National Women’s Law Center found that female veterans are more likely than their male counterparts to experience poverty and to work in low-wage jobs.
- Female veterans continue to face challenges in the civilian workforce, including a pay gap relative to male veterans and non-veteran women, as well as difficulty translating their military skills and experiences into civilian job qualification.
- US Department of labor found that on average, it takes veterans 6 months longer to find employment compared to non-veterans.
Additionally, according to a 2019 report by the National Women’s Law Center, female veterans may also face unique challenges related to caregiving responsibilities, access to healthcare, and discrimination in the workplace.
While there is no single course or educational program that can take away all of these sacrifices and challenges, our Earn While You Serve courses will provide basic and comprehensive training in entrepreneurship and starting an online business.
